Students who study abroad say that it is a life-changing experience.  Whether you spend a semester or a year abroad, living and learning in another country will open the doors to personal and professional experiences as well as improve foreign language skills.  Some programs even enable students to work as volunteers or interns during their stays and combine language and culture courses with their academic work.

The Office of International Student Programs is continually improving and increasing the options made available to Canisius students interested in expanding their horizons.

Canisius offers study abroad programs in the following cities:

Why study abroad?
Study abroad programs provide the opportunity to strengthen fluency in other languages, enhance knowledge of global relations and deepen the understanding of cultural and societal differences and similarities.

Several majors require an international experience.  Students majoring in international relations, international business, European studies or a modern language are strongly encouraged to spend at least one semester abroad.  But students from any major may study abroad.  Imagine spring break on the French Rivera or hiking in the Alps.

Study abroad students at Canisius meet with the Director of International Student Programs to discuss their needs and goals for the semester overseas.  The Director works with Canisius study abroad alumni, the Office of Student Records and the Financial Aid Office to help the student select the most appropriate program by matching academic and cultural interests.  Students also undergo a pre-departure orientation to help them prepare for the experience and a re-entry session upon their return.

"Studying abroad has by far been the greatest experience of my life," says Theresa L. Mauro '07, who spent a semester in London, England.

"Never have I grown and learned so much in such a short period.  I will certainly be returning home a more independent and open-minded individual with an entirely new set of life goals."
