Management majors are encouraged to gain real world experience through completing an internship. Canisius interns have an excellent reputation and many obtain their first job offers as a result of their internship. An internship combined with the study abroad experience is both an appealing opportunity and asset in the rapidly expanding global economy.
In recent years, management majors have interned with such organizations as:
- HSBC
- Fisher Price
- Moog
- NCO
- The National Labor Relations Board
- Rich Products
- Summit Educational Resources
Management students can participate in the student chapter of the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), an operations management professional association. Some of their activities include monthly meetings, speaker presentations and plant tours. The APICS Top Management Night, held every spring, is a meeting of executives from local employers. Canisius students can volunteer at the dinner and network with practicing professionals and hear formal presentations. The student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) sponsors resume and interviewing workshops, hosts campus programs with local human resource professionals and conducts tours of local businesses, which include presentations on human resource issues facing that organization. Members of the Canisius SHRM chapter attend monthly meetings of the Buffalo-Niagara Human Resources Association (BNHRA) to network with local HR professionals and benefit from professional development programs sponsored by BNHRA.
