Welcome to the Graduate Literacy Program Home Page!

The Literacy Education Master of Science Degree Program prepares students to meet New York State requirements for certification as a literacy specialist.

Course sequences in the program (33 credit hours) provide for certification in one of two areas: pre-K through grade 6 or grade 5 through grade 12.  Additional coursework (9 hours) qualifies candidates for certification in both areas.

Each concentration has a component that involves working with children in a clinical setting, specifically testing and tutoring in the area of literacy skills (reading and writing).

The program is open to teachers with initial certification, as well as prospective teachers.  Candidates without certification will require additional course work.
