The Office of Student Retention provides personal attention in guiding students to resolution of problems, enabling a successful, quality experience at Canisius College. This is accomplished through one-on-one interviews with the director, either in the office or on the phone, communication to students’ home (parents) and coordination of new student orientation. The coordination of a quality orientation program facilitates the successful transition to college by students and is the first step in ensuring student retention.
The director of Student Retention is available on a walk-in basis for students (and parents) to discuss questions and concerns in all areas (academic, financial or personal) of campus life. In a one-on-one situation, strategies for resolution are discussed. Students are encouraged to return and discuss results or further action, if needed.
Communication with parents is maintained through quarterly mailings which provide information on:
- Adjustment issues
- Registration
- Summer school
- Important dates in the school calendar
Toll-free telephone access (1-800-264-9089) to the Office of Student Retention encourages parental contact with the office.
