Alternative Spring Break (ASB) is one of Canisius' most popular and rewarding experiences. For 18years Campus Ministry has offered this unique community service alternative to traditional spring break activites. In the spring of 2008, 53 Canisius students and staff traveled to sites in rural Applachia located in Kentucky and West Virginia to work on home repair and to Erie, PA to live and work with the Benedictine Commnuity,

The ASB program is based on four cornerstones: Community, Social Justice, Reflection, and Simple Living. The experience offers a tangible opportunity to reach out and extend oneself beyond normal boundaries. It provides an opportunity to view a different culture and meet diverse people. Participants and community members gain a valuable perspective on human relationships and the power of service. Students return renewed, refreshed, and with a new vision about their lives and the world around them.
