Like gifts from alumni and friends, corporate and foundation grants are critical to Canisius' fundraising efforts. Private grants provide support for traditional areas of need, such as scholarship funds and academic programming, and they enable Canisius to launch new initiatives without depleting the college's unrestricted resources.
In recent years, corporations and private foundations have experienced a substantial increase in the number of requests for funds. Despite this competitive environment, Canisius' corporate and foundation fundraising remains strong. In 2005-2006 grants and commitments from corporations and foundations were $1,334,800. Canisius also received $288,540 in corporate matching-gift support. In addition to providing the college with another important source of support, matching gifts allow alumni to double, triple or even quadruple their personal contributions.
